We here at Underscore Part 3 HQ are like most of the UK are scratching our heads at what on earth to do in this weird and not wonderful world we’ve found ourselves thrown into. Well considering we’re always chatting shit to the best acts on the sea of global indie we decided to use this to our advantage and get a plethora of acts to give us some lockdown tips!
Hey! We hope you are doing ok during lock down! Who are you currently staying/living with?
My housemates Ronnie, Charlotte, and Gee, we all went to Uni together.
Recently Off the Record did a piece asking people for their top 3 isolation albums, could we ask yours? One classic, one newish and one curve ball?
Classic – probably Kings and Queens by Jamie T, that’s my all-time favourite record.
Newish, probably Mura Masa – R.Y.C, that’s influenced a lot of the new material I’m writing, Sukie’s new EP Feliz Cumpleaños Baby! is super nice too.
Curve ball – Gaijin by Elijah Nang, one of the best lo-fi beat albums for me, and the cover art is just beautiful!
What’s your current favourite series/TV show you’re binging?
We’ve burned through Community, watched some Anime’s at the start of lockdown like Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist. I’ve been watching a lot of Football docs and Star Wars related stuff recently too. My Family as well for a laugh
What is the first thing you’ll do after lockdown is lifted?
I’m mad excited to play football again, I’ve gotten my fitness up recently, so it’ll be the first time I’m properly back for years.
What is your favourite snacky snack for quarantine?
Sesame Bagel, lightly toasted to just golden, with red pepper hummus, cucumber, salt, pepper, and garlic powder, takes a minute to make and is just so good.
What are your top tips for staying sane during isolation?
I don’t really have any, I don’t know I walk around my house loads and have a pretty great sleeping pattern now, so that?
If you could go to any gig tonight who would be on the line up?
This is a full on festival in my head. We’ve got:
Childish Gambino, Bon Iver, Mura Masa, Idles, Lizzo, The 1975, Brockhampton, Tinned fruit, Cpt. Prang, The Petties, Flowers of Palo, and Fountain Head. Maybe King Krule too, it’ll change daily!
A lot of acts are doing lots of digital things to entertain their fans, have you done anything yet or do you have any plans? What are/were they?
Not really, I’ve got stuff planned, but it’s more me not getting too ahead myself, something I’ve done before. Like I’ve taken a breath and started writing and working on a larger project, rather than “ah this is ready, yeah go”. Have got some work lined up for branding which is really cool.
What’s in store for you once life goes back to normal?
Releasing music, I have an album and EP done. I’ve also got some weird, ambient, Eno style music done because I’ve had time to experiment with my guitar and stuff which is fun. It’s just working out what’s where, but you’ll see some bits from me before the end of October for sure!
Thanks so much for getting involved in Underscore Part 3’s Quarantine Q&A!
