We here at Underscore Part 3 HQ are like most of the UK are scratching our heads at what on earth to do in this weird and not wonderful world we’ve found ourselves thrown into. Well considering we’re always chatting shit to the best acts on the sea of global indie we decided to use this to our advantage and get a plethora of acts to give us some lockdown tips! After a wonderful live set for our #Stayhome Sessions we spoke to Johnny Bourke about how he has been doing during lockdown!

Hey! We hope you are doing ok during lock down! Who are you currently staying/living with?

I’m doing just wonderful! I’m staying with my mum in Tipperary, Ireland. I’ve just spent the last 5 months on a cruise ship around Australia / New Zealand / Fiji / Philippines so it’s nice to finally be home and have those comforts i.e. home-cooked meals!

Recently Off the Record did a piece asking people for their top 3 isolation albums, could we ask yours? One classic, one newish and one curve ball?

This question always gives me anxiety. Ok let’s break it down: the classic is John Mayer – Continuum. That’s my favourite album of all time so that’s a given. One newish album let’s say Niall Horan – Heartbreak Weather. I’ve really been digging that at the minute, it was a toss-up between Niall and Harry Style’s new album. Finally, one curve ball, I think I’ll go with the movie soundtrack to Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band purely for amusement. If anyone is unaware of that album please check it out. You’ll never judge a dodgy Beatles cover band every again.

What’s your current favourite series/TV show you’re binging?

Lucifer – I’m obsessed! Just finished newest season of Ozark as well, so good.

What is the first thing you’ll do after lockdown is lifted?

Vegas baby.

What is your favourite snacky snack for quarantine?

This is really lame but as I said I’ve been away for the first half of this year and what I really missed the most were oven pizzas. I’m talking basic-bitch Goodfellas Cajun Chicken Feast. That shit slaps.

What are your top tips for staying sane during isolation?

HUSTLE! I know that sounds boring but it’s honestly the best thing to do. I have my debut track coming out next month so I’m spending all day every day working on the promo and I don’t even have time to feel sorry for myself about being isolated!

If you could go to any gig tonight who would be on the line up?

John Mayer / Bruce Springsteen / Vulfpeck or a very off the wall option would be Fisher (I’m craving Vegas I told you).

A lot of acts are doing lots of digital things to entertain their fans, have you done anything yet or do you have any plans? What are/were they?

I’ve had the fortune/misfortune depending on how you look at it of still working and performing all year so far so I never had a chance to but since I’ve been home I’ve posted a lot of live footage I gathered from playing during the last few months and I also recorded and videoed a cover of “This City” by Sam Fischer on my socials last week. That song is catchy!

What’s in store for you/the band once life goes back to normal?

My debut track “Can’t Do Without” is coming out July 3rd. Available for pre-save now. I’m promoting the absolute hell out of that as it’s been a long time in the making. No less than two years and three countries. I plan to get back on the road and play some shows as soon as this blows over and I’m also looking forward to more traveling and writing/recording outside of my home!

Thanks so much for getting involved in Underscore Part 3’s Quarantine Q&A!

It’s been a pleasure. Thanks so much for having me!
