We here at Underscore Part 3 HQ are like most of the UK are scratching our heads at what on earth to do in this weird and not wonderful world we’ve found ourselves thrown into. Well considering we’re always chatting shit to the best acts on the sea of global indie we decided to use this to our advantage and get a plethora of acts to give us some lockdown tips! We had a chat with 1/5th of King Fisher – front man Patrick to see what he’s been up to during these COVID days…
Hey! We hope you are doing ok during lock down! Who are you currently staying/living with?
Currently with me family much like the rest of the band, but we all study at the University of Exeter
Recently Off the Record did a piece asking people for their top 3 isolation albums, could we ask yours? One classic, one newish and one curve ball?
Toughie this. All-time favourite is a toss-up between The Stone Roses – The Stone Roses (1989) and Black Midi – Schlagenheim (2019) – the latter is newish and a bit of a curveball! Would probably have to go for Tame Impala – Lonerism (2012) for the last one.
What’s your current favourite series/TV show you’re binging?
Fargo on Netflix – series based on the classic Cohen Brothers film. Excellent thriller and a star-studded cast.
What is the first thing you’ll do after lockdown is lifted?
Toss-up between the pub and heading back to Exeter to jam with the band. But no guarantees those will be feasible ideas after just lifting lockdown!
What is your favourite snacky snack for quarantine?
My sister is an avid baker, so I get to dive into all kinds of free cakes and biscuits. Grateful for that.
What are your top tips for staying sane during isolation?
Get into as much of a routine as possible, master the art of the zoom call, masturbate.
If you could go to any gig tonight who would be on the line up?
Wow, toughie. Itching to see Black Midi, Fontaines D.C., Sticky Fingers and The Streets so probably them
A lot of acts are doing lots of digital things to entertain their fans, have you done anything yet or do you have any plans? What are/were they?
We have a weekly series called ‘Fish Fridays’ where we post a lockdown recording once a week. So far we’ve played one of our own tunes and covered ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears and ‘At Most A Kiss’ by Blossoms, they seem to have gone down well. Oh, and we’ve released a single on 22nd May – go check it out;)
What’s in store for you/the band once life goes back to normal?
Hopefully many more gigs and tunes in the studio. We’re aiming big this year and are hoping to get some pretty big shows on with some of the finest bands in Exeter and the South West.
Thanks so much for getting involved in Underscore Part 3’s Quarantine Q&A!
No worries, thanks for having me guys
