Quarantine Q&A #11- With talent beyond her years we had to question Mimi Rae after her performance on our #StayHome Session

We here at Underscore Part 3 HQ are like most of the UK are scratching our heads at what on earth to do in this weird and not wonderful world we’ve found ourselves thrown into. Well considering we’re always chatting shit to the best acts on the sea of global indie we decided to use this to our advantage and get a plethora of acts to give us some lockdown tips! Mimi Rae honestly was a bit of a wild card to book, shes not even out of her teens and yet to have a proper footing on the music industry. We were tipped off by our team at the quality of the work she’s currently producing in her bedroom and had to chat to her. Could this be the very first interview the potentially future smash singer songwriter does?

Hi Mimi! We hope you are doing ok during lock down! Who are you currently staying/living with?

Hey! Yeah, I’m not too bad! At the moment I’m living with my immediate family so my mum, dad and brother.

Recently Off the Record did a piece asking people for their top 3 isolation albums, could we ask yours? One classic, one newish and one curve ball?

For me, my classic fave would have to be Sheer Heart Attack by Queen, newish would be You and Your Friends by Peach Pit and curve ball being Krystal by Matt Maltese (full of slow, sad piano ballads. It’s kinda a vibe, not going to lie).

What’s your current favourite series/TV show you’re binging?

At the moment I’m binge watching the BBC show Killing Eve.

What is the first thing you’ll do after lockdown is lifted?

Probably get on a train to see the people that are most important to me.

What is your favourite snacky snack for quarantine?

I don’t know if this counts as a snack, but I’ve been eating lots of mac and cheese to keep me sane.

What are your top tips for staying sane during isolation?

Lots of facetime calls, lots of reassurance that this will end soon, lots of writing to try and keep the creative juices flowing if you feel me. Also, lots of mac and cheese.

If you could go to any gig tonight who would be on the line up?

Woah, big question. For any line up ever? Probably Dodie, followed by Twenty One Pilots, with Queen headlining.

As for a local/upcoming linenup that I could realistically go see straight away?  I would really like to see Coach Party, Flowvers and Wave Chase perform together, I think that would be sick.

A lot of acts are doing lots of digital things to entertain their fans, have you done anything yet or do you have any plans? What are/were they?

I’ve been doing a couple stream gigs/events: I played week 2 of Sucker’s quarantine fest a few weeks back, took part in a couple stream open mic events and have a few more in the next couple weeks so that should be good!

What’s in store for you/the band once life goes back to normal?

Rehearse! Rehearse! Rehearse! I’d really like to focus on building my live show to something really cool. Also I am working on a couple demos so would like to begin the process of recording a single professionally to put out.

Thanks so much for getting involved in Underscore Part 3’s Quarantine Q&A!

Thank you so much for having me!
