“[Seas Shoes] is the sound of everything the band have been building up to their whole lives.”

Oh what joy it is to have some more Hanya in our lives with the recently dropped Seas Shoes EP. The aforementioned EP is the sound of everything the band have been building up to this their whole lives, gone are the insecure introverted songs Heather Sheret penned in her bedroom and now live the mature efforts that will soon inevitably be filling mid-size auditoriums around the UK. If shoegaze and dreampop were the the new pop music, gone would be Taylor Swift leaving Heather and the Hanya members hailed with worship. Not every band is designed to be a stadium band and in that way Hanya are unlikely to reach those heights, but now the band have found exactly what they do best the indie zines and radio stations have got to know them the praise is appropriately being draped over them. To complete the line up Hanya have added yet another member (Hanya were a duo only a couple of years ago and now have 4 members) on guitar which fills the sound comfortably. Although we’re led to believe the same team that worked on the previous EP have worked on Seas Shoes you can feel that as a band and production team they’ve found their comfort and quite simply, its perfection.

“If shoegaze and dreampop were the the new pop music, gone would be Taylor Swift leaving Heather and the 3 other Hanya members hailed with worship.”

Being only 4 tracks in length Seas Shoes is an ‘all killer, no filler’ piece, the type of work that leaves you lusting for more, the desperation when you need one last kiss from your lover to give you life. As fans this frustrates us beyond words, but as critics we understand the reason behind only a 4 tracks. With Hanya set in line to claim their well deserved crowns they’ve taken a pause, a time to compose themselves, but the next rightful step is to craft an album of equal beauty- a coronation if you will.

“[Seas Shoes] is the type of work that leaves you lusting for more, the desperation when you need one last kiss from your lover to give you life.”

Every Hanya fan will have a different favourite part of the EP, and every fan will be correct- beauty is viewed differently by everyone, but beauty is clear for all that spend their time being serenaded by Hanya. As an intricate EP on every listen you ears prick up to another part, the band have carefully crafted the 4 tracks to demonstrate the flamboyant prowess of each member at their point, but equally them members ability to restrain themselves to shine light on the others. Seas Shoes has mountains of both light and dark leaving the EP suited to all seasons, and although we’re only at spring time we’re unlikely to find a better EP this year.
